Shiona Sommerville is a photographer living in Massachusetts whose people-centered work reflects her experience of community-building as a practising urban planner. Originally from the Canadian Maritimes, Shiona feels a close affinity for coastal landscapes and has a particular eye for expressions and artifacts of nature and human resiliency.

Shiona developed her design acumen as a landscape architect, earning her master’s degree from Guelph University, and honed her understanding of city planning and environmental issues with further study at Harvard, where she has continued to work. Photography classes at Harvard’s Division of Continuing Education provided photographic grounding and inspiration. Currently, Shiona is completing a Digital Media Certificate at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design as well as the Atelier program at the Griffin Museum of Photography.
